Yes, great episode! From Daenerys kicking ass with her dragons to Ramsey being devoured by his own dogs, I was cheering throughout. My 11-year-old nephew, who never saw a single episode of the show, watched it with me, and I think he was quite impressed. Yeah, poor Rickon. If only he didn't run in a straight line with absolutely no deviation whatsoever. I kept wishing that he would just zigzag a little bit. Oh man, if it takes Martin about 2+ years to finish that book, I think we might as well just abandon all hope of him ever finishing the series. Yikes.
I guess Rickon learned to run at the Charlize Theron school of athletics!
This season uses elements from Winter and a few leftover threads from Crows. We just don't know how much of Winter they used and how much the last 13 episodes will use those elements or if they move to the last book. George has mentioned he thinks Dream of Spring may be as big as Winter will be. If that's the case, I just don't think we'll see it unless he finishes Winter next year then gets right to work on it.

Hopefully once winds is done George will pick up the pace. Most of the plot will progress, some knots will hopefully be tied. If Ramsay has his final death, if Stannis does than that means George can just bring it all home. I found that with Essays.

Interesting that they chose to replicate the battle of Cannae, with Jon playing the role traditionally ascribed to Gaius Terentius Varro: the dumbass who leads his army into a trap and gets them surrounded. In the overhead shot we see Jon's army so jammed together by the surrounding phalanx they literally can't raise their arms, just as the slaughter at Cannae is described. Only this time the cavalry comes to the rescue. Great battle scene.

One thing that I wondered about... Jon was looking pretty damn good with Longclaw last night. When did he get THAT good? I always thought he was above average, but he looked damn near prodigious last night. True, he did a lot of back attacks, but he also did some nice counters, too. Was that cutthroat from King's Landing that good I guess?
I wondered if we would see him in his best form after what Ramsay said to him at their face-to-face and he didn't disappoint.

No, there's no way Martin will ever finish the book series before the show ends. He might have Winds of Winter finished - maybe - but definitely not A Dream of Spring. Indeed, Jon was quite a sword master during that battle. There's probably not much of an explanation for it other than the fact that he's a main character that fans are rooting for.

Just a few days away from the finale. It's good that we get 66 minutes, they're going to need it. I'm guessing they'll touch on all the pov characters and Bran will get the big scene we all know is coming.
I'm hoping Daeny at least starts to cross the Narrow Sea. The whole final season could be a dual invasion then.
Daeny invading from the East and the Others invading from the North. And...don't forget Dorne from the South.

Yeah, isn't it weird how they're handling Euron? In the books he's become one of the major antagonists but on the show they combined him with Victarion and really don't have him doing anything. The actor they chose is completely wrong for the part, too imo.

Actually, during his stay at Castle Black, he was setting up as an almost unbeatable swordsman. Even Sir Alestir knew it. But this battle sure won't do anything for his reputation as a general.

Victarion is an extraneous character (like Fake Aegon). His purpose is to give Dany her ships to reach Westeros. Yara does it just as well. The problem with Dance and Feast is they had bloat; scenes that could have taken one chapter take 4; characters we had no reason to care for drag shit down. We get more viewpoint characters.

The odd part is George thought he was important enough to make a POV character, but the show shows he's...not really needed. Enron does fine to get the point across.

That's definitely feasible! He could even take weekends off and still have it done in a reasonable amount of time.
