Maybe, Conan has a couple of wounds on the right-hand side of his chest, oozing blood? Or maybe Tom abandoned his original design around the chest and neck area and just kept flowing with the rest of the sketch?

Death Dealer Man, that one just boils over with Frazetta-inspired style and inspiration. The subject, the movement. the sense of impact, the weird blend of impressionistic softness and sharp detail. Any new info on this guy's project with Roy Thomas? I'm actually hoping for a fresh pastiche yarn from Thomas, with Grindberg given space to cut loose with the best he can offer.

Yeah, this is very Frazetta-inspired in style as well as the execution. Tom is also demonstrating a skill that Frazetta was the best at - he knew when to add certain details, in a minimalist way that still worked and enhanced his work. Many artists believe in over-saturating the whole illustration/painting with loads of detail and line-work. I can't wait to see Roy Thomas and Tom Grindberg on Conan. Looks like we're still in for a bit of wait with the upcoming collaboration. Roy Thomas was working on introducing Dark Agnes or a Dark Agnes type character into the series - but, it seems delayed for a while. Here's a link with info and discussion in the 'Future of Dark Horse' thread and a scan of Tom's early concept design of Dark Agnes. swordsofreh.proboards.com/thread/98/future-dark-horse?page=2

St. George And today is Saint George's Day. He's the patron saint of numerous countries and regions (like Catalonia). Great pic by Tom.

Does anyone has any recent news on a possible Thomas / Grindberg title? It seems to have cooled off a bit.

Thanks for the reply, hun. Looking at those covers, I guess I'm a fool for B&W because when color is added, it doesn't look quite as good to me. I'm sure his stuff will sing regardless but I almost wish DH would release a B&W conan run.

It would be great if DH could release a Black & White magazine, SSOC style - it certainly would add a pulpy feel. But it looks like, these days we'll just have to tolerate the mediocre art enhanced with digital coloring on glossy paper.

This is from Tom: "This [the Dark Horse collection of Tom's Tarzan comics] should have been out 9 months ago....perhaps around X-mas but for the life of me Dark Horse seems to either not care or is just plain not interested in printing my book. I am virtually unemployed and selling all my art off just keep afloat. I suggest we write letters directed to them and to ERB Inc.! How say you? I am not trying to whine here...I just need a job!"
