It actually makes more sense for there to be more non-humanoid races in the universe, because why would aliens living on planets very unlike Earth look anything like us? But I'm sure budget limitations and/or technological limitations made that challenging for some of those older shows. I think you're right . Back then they did the best they could with what they had and did damn well for the most part, especially with the Alien and Cameron's The Thing. Nowadays we have the luxury of slick cgi and procedural random generation algorithms to emulate that, like the game No Man’s Sky:
Yes, The Thing (one of my fav horror movies) is a great example of a strange alien species. I think you meant Carpenter, though. Aliens, by Cameron, is also up there with my favorites. Wow, that's impressive, even if they are randomly generated! I hadn't heard of that game before. Episode 4 of Acolyte was a big improvement over the third. Speaking of strange species, the ones discovered in that thick jungle when they were looking for Kelnacca were pretty damn creepy. After a couple interesting reveals, it ended on a cliffhanger, so I'm eager for next week's installment.

I did think the show fell apart in the last three minutes and the bad guy reveal wasn’t great. I checked and it turns out some of the writers from the earlier episodes worked on House of the Dragon. This just shows what a showrunner can do.

A good show runner will also remind writers not to include characters who weren’t born when the series takes place! In the Jedi council there’s a guy who looks like Ki-Adi-Mundi. I just wrote it off to a Yoda/Yaddle kind of thing. But either in the end credits or the closed captioning, he’s actually named as such. One problem, according to previously non-Legends lore (aka Disney era), he not only wasn’t a Jedi yet, but wasn’t born yet! Then again, it’s never established in the show (unless I missed it) exactly when it takes place so it could be written off that way. But this kind of thing is so easy to avoid. Even when they get better, they still do things like this. Canon schmanon…

Eesh, that's just careless. It seems that if you're going to include a character that most casual SW fans (like me) might only recognize, you'd do a little more research so be sure your information is correct so that you don't look like an idiot when people dig deeper. Yes, The Thing (one of my fav horror movies) is a great example of a strange alien species. I think you meant Carpenter, though. Aliens, by Cameron, is also up there with my favorites. Well, the two of them directed two of the best sci-fi horror movies of the 80s, so it's easy to confuse!

An excellent point about their initials!

Just about done watching Star Wars: Rebels after Johnny's recommendation and I can confirm it has been great! Just finished the episode where Kanan dies. Pretty hilarious to be a middle aged man who finishes each week night laying in bed watching a Star Wars animation and ends up getting emotional about it. I mean, I knew something big might happen because the entire show is about to end, but that was a bullseye shot to fee-fees. They seemed to turn things up a notch with Hera being tortured on screen repeatedly too while most of the show seemed to avoid rougher stuff like that. Quality, meaningful, character-driven stuff there.

I have two episodes left, which will complete MY personal cannon of Star Wars = the original trilogy, the prequels ( ), The Cone Wars and Rebels. That's it. Nothing else exists on my cloud except for maybe those Ewoks movies haha. I also have just the cuts of Princess Leia in her slave outfit that I used Movie Maker to create a slow motion compilation video on loop. That counts too.

Freddie Prinz Jr., Fred from the movies and Mr. Buffy the Vampire Slayer does Kanan/Caleb. Casey did Shaggy. Believe it or not, Frank Welker (original AND current animated Fred) who is the go to guy for animated animal sounds has done exactly ONE Star Wars related animated episode.

Wow….I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a show so predictable yet confusingly unpredictable. You could tell the writers thought Acolyte Episode 7 was going to be so smart as they do their Rashomon. Plot wise overall, not a thing that happened wasn’t telegraphed as far back as Episode 2. But some of the individual plot points were utterly baffling.
And I’m not sure if they really meant to make it this clear, but the coven WAS dealing in evil and the Jedi were likely doing the right thing (in between using their beach metal detectors…oy…). Then out of nowhere they do something stupid and were supposed to turn on them. I turned on the writers for putting the characters in these idiotic plot points. And they left the ‘big’ reveal for either next episode or saving it for a next season that may never happen. What a mess.

Here’s an interesting take on the series after watching the (hopefully series) finale: the girls ARE the villains. We’re watching evil succeed. The script was frankly insulting in wanting you to cheer for the character who’s been killing people through the entire show. Oh she was justified! Not the way they showed it, the incident seemed like a clear cut case of self defense, or at least you could certainly make that argument. But the script doesn’t want the audience to, just believe what it tells you. Sorry, you haven’t made the character the least bit sympathetic and now you want me to root for her? Nope, not going there. You don’t get to do a 180 on practically every character in the last half hour and have me go with it.
It ended on a cliffhanger, if we’re lucky, it’ll never be resolved.

I dunno...with Yoda and possibly Darth Plagueis (if that was actually him looking out from the dark cave, as many speculate) involved, it could make for a very interesting season. Those light saber battles were pretty damn impressive too, so I wouldn't mind seeing more of that. I didn't get the feeling that I should be rooting for either of the twins, though - There was too much mystery behind them, in my eyes, and including the information that Sol was withholding from Osha, I felt their allegiances could end up going either way. And speaking of Sol, he was the one guy that I actually was rooting for, as he was a very troubled and flawed character with a good heart. I was hoping maybe he'd be redeemed. I enjoyed the series overall, but I think the story just took a long, convoluted way of getting to where it needed to go. But if there is a second season, I'll watch it.

That certainly seems to be the intention to have that be Plagueis on the cave. If they wanted to do a story with him, they should’ve done it instead of trying to piggyback it off this. To paraphrase Burt Lancaster in the Professionals, you ain’t earned the right to tell the Darth Plagueis story 😊
