looks like DH has not given up on Conan, a new series called Conan the Slayer written by Cullen Bunn and art by Sergio Davila, with an alternate cover art by the great Mark Schultz. This could be good, ive read Harrow County and liked it. ive checked out some of Davila art and I think it looks good. great news.

Cullen Bunn is the latest writer to take on Robert E. Howard's venerable bararian Conan the Cimmerian, launching the new series Conan The Slayer with artist Sergio Davila through Dark Horse.
Conan The Slayer #1 features a regular cover by Lee Bermejo and a 30th anniversary cover, seen here, by Mark Schultz. It hits shelves July 13.
Conan the Slayer #1

Variant: Mark Schultz (30th Anniversary Variant)

Alone, battle weary, and with nothing but his sword, Conan of Cimmeria faces his inevitable death in the arid wastes . . . but instead stumbles into a camp of Kozaki raiders. With a knife at his throat and a band of Turanian hunters at his back, will the half-dead barbarian find a new ally in the Kozaki chief? Kicking off a brand new story arc, penned by superstar writer Cullen Bunn (Harrow County) and with art by Sergio Davila (Red Sonja)!

That's a surprise. The only works I've read written by Bunn are Immortals Weapons #2 from Marvel and The Shadow #0 from Dynamite. I have no idea what to expect from this from a writing standpoint. Here's the artist's blog: sergioodison.blogspot.com/Please, just let the editor have figured out how to art direct this. If the editor is the same person in charge of The Avenger, I'm hoping lessons have been learned.

He's a horror writer, so I think any Devil in Iron adaptation will be good. So long as the kinda uncomfortable scene where Conan kisses a struggling Octavia relents is cut (before anyone accuses me of being PC a LOT of real rapists have used the "I didn't think she meant it when she said no" to justify their crimes) it's good.
Also, he's done another dark horse favorite harrow county (which is usually like the 4th highest best seller). So it's possible that burrow's fanbase might be willing to jump aboard the conan boat as well, giving the series a much needed shot in the arm

I feel bad for Van Lente because he just caught the aftershock of the Wood fiasco. If nothing else, we have that Schultz cover. One of his more dynamic pieces, IMO.

He's a step up from wood, but not quite Truman. He's had some downs (comedy sometimes feels forced, making akrel near xuthal) but the ups are good (Janissa was likable, Salome was vile and evil, and the relationship between diana and her beau)

Well, this certainly seems promising. I can't say I'm familiar with the writer, but the art should be good!

I'm a big fan of Cullen Bunn. I think a lot of people here would like his weird western epic, The Sixth Gun. You people like weird westerns, right?
The first comic series I read by him though was The Damned, which was like a 1930s gangster story, except some of the gangs were demons.
Another series, Helheim was about a Viking brought back from the dead, a draugr, caught in an ancient conflict btw/ witches in the icy northlands. I was not as big a fan of this one, but it got good reviews.
Unlike Harrow County, the ones I just mentioned have a significant action/adventure element in addition to fantasy/horror, but the emphasis is probably always more on the fantasy/horror. Harrow County originates from his upbringing in North Carolina, and I always wonder if he's read Manly Wade Wellman's Silver John stories? Anyway, I enjoy this series, but it's not the one that would make me comfortable with the idea of him taking on Conan.
He's considered up-and-coming, and will draw some curious people and get some on-line reviews from critics that have ignored the series for awhile, but I don't know that he has that big of a following. I'm probably not a good judge of that sort of thing though.

The artists work looks pretty good, but then again, Ching has some good looking stuff out there. If the artist brings his best to the table, and if the writer isn't the second coming of Brian Wood then maybe they'll win me back.

Not that I wish to be a nay-sayer, but Mr Bunn quit DC's Aquaman as his writing/portrayal of the character was poorly received by fans of the title. I have these issues in my to read pile, so I cannot offer my opinion on them, but I have read Harrow C and that's good.

I'm anxious to see how Bunn does. I like Harrow County a lot. The artist looks amazing, that alone is a huge step up for the comic! Feels like one of those situations where I'd be willing to buy the book twice, one colored and one uncolored with just inks.
