Reviews and word of mouth for this movie are stellar. Almost unanimously everybody who has seen it agrees that it is the best Godzilla film ever made, if not the greatest giant monster movie made yet. As a life long Godzilla fan I am overly excited to watch it this evening. Anyone else going to check this out?

It looks like what the 2014 should have been like. I guess the “Monarch” version is now the template.

I just saw it. I enjoyed it greatly I just got back from the cinema. Loved it. Best Godzilla movie in my opinion. You actually care about the characters, so unlike most Godzilla films I did not find my self asking when is Godzilla going to show up. The film is way more dark and serious then any pervious Godzilla movie, which is something I really found unique. It almost feels like a horror movie at times, like the beginning on Odo Island is pretty terrifying. It's also really cool to see Godzilla's aquatic nature actually utilized in a movie more.

It looks like what the 2014 should have been like. I guess the “Monarch” version is now the template. For sure, this is what I wanted from 2014. The disappoint was monumental back when I went to see it in theaters. The hype was unrealistic, ten years since "Godzilla Final Wars" and fourteen since I had seen "Godzilla 2000" in theaters. I was beyond excited for what I considered to be Hollywood's first shot a Godzilla movie. To say the least, my excitement was trampled by my disappointment which had been built up over years of following the production of the movie. Monarch is weird for me. I don't understand the point of a show technically about Godzilla where he only appears for a minute every second episode, also the writing and acting is middling at best in my opinion. I hear that "Godzilla vs Kong: The New Empire" is shaping up to be a fun campy monster bash kind of movie. Test screening have been positive from what I have heard and I read some leaked plot elements.

It is great! It puts Hollywood films to shame with its 15-20 million dollar budget.

Fantastic movie. It manages to combine all the beats of Gojira, the essential Japanese character-driven action of Shin Godzilla, and effects as good or better than Godzilla King of the Monsters. The Minus One Godzilla draws strongly on the 1954 and 1984 incarnations, but with elements from the more recent versions too. The soundtrack includes many classic themes, too, but they use them sparingly - and it's just an incredibly well-paced, well-written, well-acted film.

I feel like Godzilla Minus One is incredibly anti-Shin Godzilla. It has a traditional iteration of Godzilla and a very emotional character driven story. Their like polar opposites. I don't really like Shin Godzilla that much, how do you feel about the film?

I don't really like Shin Godzilla that much, how do you feel about the film? I really enjoyed Shin Godzilla. I appreciated that they were making a movie that was as much a commentary on the failures of bureaucracy and leadership which have afflicted Japan in the past, the way their status in the international order post-WWII has cost them a degree of autonomy, and the way that unprecedented disasters need unprecedented solutions. Not everything worked - the Japanese/American politician with the bad accent should have stuck to Japanese - and it was definitely a weirder, quirkier, non-traditional Godzilla film. But there were some very powerful quiet moments, like when the Japanese ambassador bows deeply to the French ambassador who had bought Japan the time to work on their plan, the international cooperation, the big reveal of the atomic breath laser - those were all stunning. The end, the bit with the tail, was a bit meh...but I thought it was a great example of what you could do with the basic concept.
