Crazy that it took 70 years for a great Godzilla movie to be made. I thought it would never happen at this point. I don't even think the original Gojira is a good movie, I get canned responses about why it's a great film; but whenever I re-watch it, it comes off as such a flawed film. Recently found out that back in 1954 upon release domestically it received a mixed response from critics. Sometimes when you create a new template, it may still have issues that need to be worked through. I think the pacing of the 1956 Raymond Burr version is paced better, combining all of Godzilla’s attacks at the end. I concur with you that the pacing is superior in the Burr version. They also solved the issue of the film lacking a clear protagonist; a serious grip of mine with Gojira. The film has almost too many characters, and yet focuses on none of them. So much of the movie is about the things going on around Godzilla and typical 1950s monster movie exposition. And then very late in the film when the movie does begin to focus on Dr. Serizawa—the acting is stilted and the drama is soap level writing!

You have been proved correct mindboggled! Currently sitting at nearly 86 million. Let's see if it can bag the big 100.
Youtuber Mr H says it's made more profit than any of the DC movies released last year.

Not only are they not making any money...but they are coming out of this fiasco MINUS millions. Lol.
The big 100 seems like a realistic goal. I thought Minus One was going to exit theatres yesterday, but Toho just keeps extending the run.

And even more sobering for Hollywood is that Toho apparently said "15 million? I wish we'd had a budget of 15 million." Seems to suggest he was working from something closer to 12 or thereabouts.

The theatre where I saw it in December is advertising that they have it again.

Something to keep in mind when looking at the Japanese box office is that the Japanese yen is in the pits right now.

Makes me wish all the special effect's scenes had been done with the use of stop-motion in Godzilla vs Biollante. Would have been very cool to have one stop-motion Godzilla movie; now that will never happen, but I have a hunch that suits may make a return in the future.

I'm bummed I didn't catch this in theaters.
Is the black and white version still in the works?

From mindboggled's link: That ought to boost it over 100k.

I'm bummed I didn't catch this in theaters. Is the black and white version still in the works? It's still playing in all the same theatres in my city. Did you check all the theatres in your area? Mine still have showings going all the way to the 25th. The black and white version will be releasing later this month on the 26th.
I cannot imagine not having watched this in theatres, it is the optimal way to watch it. This is the type of film that will be looked back upon as a classic.

Yeah, no theater near me is showing it anymore, unfortunately. I'll cross my fingers nearby fingers pick up the b&w version.
There is one theater that's an hour north of me that I could go to, but I'm not sure if that's in the cards.
