Some theaters are apparently extending their run for the film here in North America. If Toho could keep it here for another two weeks I could easily see it making them $15-$20 million more.

It's up to nearly 40 million now! Toho needs to extend the films run, or their going to lose a ton of profits. Edit: I just checked local theaters and they have showing going all the way to the 15th of this month. So I don't know exactly where the one week run came from.

I feel like Godzilla Minus One is incredibly anti-Shin Godzilla. It has a traditional iteration of Godzilla and a very emotional character driven story. Their like polar opposites. I don't really like Shin Godzilla that much, how do you feel about the film? I really enjoyed Shin Godzilla. I appreciated that they were making a movie that was as much a commentary on the failures of bureaucracy and leadership which have afflicted Japan in the past, the way their status in the international order post-WWII has cost them a degree of autonomy, and the way that unprecedented disasters need unprecedented solutions. Not everything worked - the Japanese/American politician with the bad accent should have stuck to Japanese - and it was definitely a weirder, quirkier, non-traditional Godzilla film. But there were some very powerful quiet moments, like when the Japanese ambassador bows deeply to the French ambassador who had bought Japan the time to work on their plan, the international cooperation, the big reveal of the atomic breath laser - those were all stunning. The end, the bit with the tail, was a bit meh...but I thought it was a great example of what you could do with the basic concept. Fair enough. To clarify, I don't think Shin Godzilla is a bad movie, it is one of the better Godzilla films for sure. It didn't jive with my personnel tastes though.

Those watching this in the US, is it subbed or dubbed? Subbed, don't believe there will be a dub until the psychical release. Why? Do not enjoy reading subtitles?

Forty one million and counting. Looks to be pulling in about 2 million per day at current rate.

It's almost like watching a completely different story at some points. I always go with the original language, no exceptions. Just surprised it's not a turn off for the regular movie going public.

I knew the Drinker would get around to making a review of it, and boy am I glad he did, his review alone will get a bunch of assess in the seats.

Closing in on 46 million. One thing that I find curious is how it seems to seamlessly manage combining so many genres - it's listed as "Action Adventure Drama Horror Sci-Fi" on the box office mojo site.

Hmm...I wonder if it'll out do Shin Godzilla's $78 million. Still a ways off, but I think it has a chance.
