We are getting a bit away from the events in the source material but this is close enough for me. Given the medium having to truncate time and combine characters... they could do a lot worse.
The Dragonstone cave scenes were great. Everything is looking aces for the Blacks...
Damon in Harrenhall is comedy gold. So desperate for power he's willing to eat some crow from a kid.

The ongoing focus on Daemon's psychology at Harrenhall seems to make him the closest we have to a main character for this season. Stellar dragon scenes and cgi as usual, and some awesome costumes, weapons and armour in this too. Great to see Paddy Considine back as Viserys, even if only for a few flashback scenes

That's basically how I feel too. I do think it would be entertaining to have Mushroom in the series, but I understand the reasons for leaving him out.

Mushroom is one of four unreliable narrators of the events in the original book isn't he. Do they include any of the others in the TV Series?

Yeah, he's one of them, and his recounting of events are usually the most sensational or outrageous. The other two are Grand Maester Munkun and Septon Eustace, and their accounts are usually more accurate. Munkun isn't on the show either, but I think Eustace was in season 1. Grand Maester Orwyle's (the one taking care of Aegon II on the show) writings were used by Munkun in his Dance of the Dragons book, though.

Raises all kinds of conjectures about the reliability of the accounts, esp if Orwyle and Eustace are aligned with different factions (not sure which faction Eustace favors, if any). Then the series has to tread a fine line in presenting what they think is the correct interpretation.

I think Eustace was at the Red Keep when Aegon II was ruling, iirc. And Munkun later took over for Orwyle. Mushroom was with Rhaenyra at Dragonstone when she was there. He also served Aegon II, though, so who knows where his allegiance truly was (or if he really even cared). For sure, the writers of the series got to pick the interpretations they liked the best! And I'm sure many of those are Mushroom's, since his were often the most entertaining.

He reputedly has quite a crude sense of humor afaik, so like you said above, probably a bit too edgy for the writer's to include, though not out of keeping for a royal jester.

He would be hilarious, I think. He even claims that he was one of those who attempted to mount Silverwing (before Ulf did), but he failed because his pantaloons caught fire. Imagine if that had been on the last episode lol!

Imagine if that had been on the last episode lol! Pantaloons - not seen that word used in a long time! They might have difficulty working in Mushroom's sense of humor with the overall tone of the series but I wonder if they'll decide to slip him in there somewhere in later seasons.
There seems to be a lot of discussion about his absence online, but I couldn't check it out in any depth due to potential spoilers. One impression I did come away with is that he's actually quite a complex character.
I couldn't find any comment from the showrunners or writers about it but I did stumble across this from Paddy Considine:

Pantaloons included, ofc hehe

The GOAT, looking good. What did everyone think of the hour long Season 3 trailer Season 2 finale on Sunday?

The GOAT, looking good. What did everyone think of the hour long Season 3 trailer Season 2 finale on Sunday? Yeah…pretty much. Not bad by any means (though when you do a gender swap, double check the dialogue. I know we live in an odd world but still…). But a LOT of set up.

Short but sweet. Hope this comes out soon, it will tide us over nicely until HotD S3 comes out.
