Last I heard, the Jon Snow project was cancelled, yeah. Yeah, 2 years is going to be a heck of a long time to wait for season 3. Dunk and Egg should be out in about a year with a bit of luck. There's been no news on the Jon Snow project or Robert's Rebellion, but there have been some rumblings about a potential show based on Aegon's Conquest. TWO years?? !@#$... Well, at least we'll have Dunk and Egg. I might be a bit inaccurate with that guess. They begin filming early 2025 so we might get it as early as mid to late 2025 according to one site I checked. Still a long time to wait though!

Didn’t they kill the Jon Snow project? Or did they revive it then do nothing with it? Yes you're right it's been officially cancelled about four months ago apparently. I wasn't aware of that.
I'm fairly sure Aegon's Conquest is still on the menu though, at least for now.

One thing I am really hoping we get the full story on in THE WINDS OF WINTER is the tower. Spoilers if you aren't caught up with ASOIAF reading through A DANCE OF DRAGONS and the Game of Thrones tv series:
I still don't think we have seen what really went down at the Tower of Joy during Jon's birth to Lyanna.
If Lyanna wasn't abducted and truly loved Rhaegar, it made zero sense for Ned and his men to fight the three Kingsguard led by Ser Arthur Dayne. At this point in the story with Rhaegar dead and Aerys dead, everyone would be on the same side wanting to protect Jon. It makes no sense for the three Kingsguard to engage the Northerners in combat when they showed up instead of explaining to them what is going on. Why would his uncle be a threat to the new king?

On the one hand I wouldn’t necessarily panic since there were a lot of headwinds with the strike and all. On the other hand, TPTB of every company seems to be taking the wrong lesson from whatever issue that confronts them. If you’re going to spend money on anything, spend it on your highest profile projects. Control your spending but don’t skimp.

Quite a long and informative article Terry, thanks. This is almost certainly what happened - Ryan and his team were hit with a double whammy. Looked at in light of this information, they actually did damned well given what they were faced with. Looks like season two has been trimmed down to eight episodes as well.

Maybe this’ll end up pushing it out to five shortened seasons.

I think they can manage with 8 episodes as long as there isn't too much down time with added scenes that aren't in the book. Last I heard, the Jon Snow project was cancelled, yeah. Still a long time to wait, but much closer to the expected wait time for a GoT series. Most seasons of the original GoT series were about a year apart, but so far HotD has been on a two-year cycle. I think realistically, we won't expect anything before late 2025, but likely 2026 like you mentioned earlier.

Anyone want to place bets on what we'll see first?
House of the Dragon Season 3
Or
The Winds of Winter
If Season 3 isn't until 2026... oh, who am I kidding? House of the Dragon Season 3.

Season three will be much better paced and structured now that they know in advance that they will have eight episodes to work with. Hope they don't get any more rugs pulled out from under them.
Even the showrunners of classic series of old have been mucked about quite a bit and did some ingenious workarounds - I'm thinking mainly of Babylon 5 here, Straczynski had quite a few curveballs thrown at him from various directions.

Nah, I'm placing my bets on House of the Dragon season 4. Wow, that's quite a bet, Aggro, but not THAT bold if we look at history. You might be right, sadly. Who knows, House of the Dragon might FINISH before we see Winds of Winter, or even the Doors of Stone by Patrick Rothfuss.

I was kind of saying that to be funny, but at the same time, I find it hard to believe that WoW will come out anytime soon. I gave up hope several years ago, so I really won't be surprised if the TV series is done before the next book.
