Conan the Barbarian: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus
Collecting CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1-26 from 1970-1973—as well as material from 1971’s SAVAGE TALES #1 and #4, CHAMBER OF DARKNESS #4, and CONAN CLASSIC #1-11—the CONAN THE BARBARIAN: THE ORIGINAL MARVEL YEARS omnibus presents each story in all its glory, from covers to letter pages, all painstakingly restored to match the beauty of the original editions.
Relive the early exploits of Conan across shining kingdoms of an age undreamed of, as he becomes thief, slayer and a legend.
CONAN THE BARBARIAN: THE ORIGINAL MARVEL YEARS OMNIBUS VOL. 1 Written by ROY THOMAS with BARRY WINDSOR-SMITH, JOHN JAKES, MICHAL MOORCOCK and JAMES CAWTHORN Art by BARRY WINDSOR-SMITH with GIL KANE and JOHN BUSCEMA Cover by JOHN CASSADAY
Takes a moment to get used to seeing the pages all shiny and bright like that, but thankfully it looks as if they've stuck to the original colour scheme, and haven't used the horrible recoloured versions from a few years back. That being the case I might be tempted ... .
Hereaboots cam Conan, the Cimmerian: daurk-heidit, lowrin-e’ed, claymore in haun; a nabber, a cateran, a mollicatur; whiles a drearifu chiel, gey drum an’ oorie, whiles jinkin an’ rantin, fou o’ dafferie an’ deeviltrie, tae strampil owre the fancie muckle thronis o’ the Yeard wi’ brogan’d feit.
It seems like this will be one of their $100-125 hardcover omnibuses, correct?
Yes, probably similar to the recent Master of Kung Fu omnibus series
I have all of the Spider-Man and X-men hardcovers (crosses fingers for Volumes 4 for each!), and must say that I am surprised, and pleased, by the quality. Very nice, solid binding and printing. Even though I own everything Marvel Conan-wise, some in multiple formats, I will probably pick this up.
Here's the (very) rough take I posted over at the marvel masterworks board of what a possible mapping for the three main titles could look like:
CONAN THE BARBARIAN
VOLUME 1-CTB 1-26, ST 1 & 4, CC 1-11
V2-CTB 27-51, ST 2-5, SSOC 1 and material from MTE 4 and Red Nails special
V3-CTB 52-83, MF 6-7, MTE 15
V5-CTB 116-140 & Annual 6
V6-CTB 141-165 & Annuals 8 & 9
V7-CTB 166-190 & Annual 10 & 11
V8-CTB 191-215 and Annual 12
V10-CTB 241-263 and SSOC 2 (Black Colossus in color)
V11-CTB 264-275, SSOC 218-221, 223-224, 226, 229-235 and GN Ravagers at the End of Time
OMNIBUS V1-KC 1-8, CTB Annual 2, 4 & 5, GSC 1-4 and material from SSOC 8, 10 & 30
V2-KC 9-19, CTK 20-26
V4-CTK 41-55 and GN Conan of the Isles.
I never finished the SSOC mapping, I had some giant volumes trying to encompass all the Kull Solomon Kane and Red Sonja material. These should probably end up running close to 800-900 pages. Here's the first few (I have articles included, if they leave them out, it might save at least one volume):
OMNIBUS V1-ST 1-5, SSOC 1-10, Kull & the Barbarians 1-3 and material from Monsters Unleashed #1
V3-SSOC 22-30, MSS #2 plus I threw in B&W versions of Phoenix on the Sword and Red Shadows
V4-SSOC 31-39, MSS 9 plus a B&W version of Thing from the Crypt
V5-SSOC 40-52, I also threw in Marvel Preview #19 (Kull)
